KITCHEN GARDEN, EARLY SPRING 2020

  • After such a wet winter it has been impossible to start the winter digging let alone finish it, but as soon as we get a few days of warm sunshine this will be priority.

  • Covering the planting soil with polythene will help it warm up, I do this two weeks before I plan to sow outside.

  • Plenty of seed sowing in the polytunnel - salad crops, spinach, chard, rocket, cabbage, broccoli, kale, broad beans. Herbs - parsley, winter savoury, chives & chervil. Propagation of perennial herbs such as mint.

  • The onion sets are ready to be planted but the soil is not so welcoming so that will have to wait for better days.

  • Time to chit the potatoes in a frost free environment.
